Research has shown that an average American drinks approximately 56 Gallons of soda per year. A lot of individuals admit that they drink more soda than water. Hence, this could be very harmful for your health. Here are a few reasons why you should avoid soda:

1. The sugar content

A single can of soda contains an equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar. This amount of sugar, especially when it is in a liquid form, increases the blood sugar level which could lead to diabetes. The intake of soda would also lead to weight gain and other health problems.

2. Phosphoric acid

Soda also contains Phosphoric acid, which may interfere with the body’s ability to absorb calcium and can lead to osteoporosis, cavities and bone softening.  It also affects the stomach which could slow down digestion and block  absorption of nutrients in the body.

3. Poor water quality

The water used in soda is mere tap water which contains chemicals like chlorine, fluoride and traces of heavy metals.

4. Artificial sweeteners

Soda is used to substitute sugar and this could be very harmful to the body. It has been linked to almost a hundred different health issues. This includes seizures, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, diabetes and emotional disorders.

They are actually converted to methanol at warm temperature and methanol breaks down to formaldehyde and formic acid. Sodas also increase the risk of metabolic syndrome which could lead to increased belly fat, high blood sugar levels and a raise in cholesterol, which are all very harmful for your health.

5. Contains caffeine

Most soda contains caffeine, which has been known to lead to cancer, breast lump, irregular heart beat and high blood pressure. These are all said to be the side effects of drinking soda. Hence, the intake of soda should be reduced due to the problems it causes.

6. Lacks nutrients

There is no nutrient value in soda, instead it causes more harm than good to your body. Hence, soda is not a natural substance. It causes a lot of health issues such as tooth decay, blood pressure and heart problems.
