Cancer is a leading cause of death in the United States but living healthy has the potential of preventing its risks. Living a healthy lifestyle devoid of smoking, excessive alcohol intake helps maintain Body Mass Index (BMI) and weight within the normal range. It involves exercising daily and healthy feeding. Studies have rightly identified that a healthy lifestyle is capable of preventing about 20%-40% of cancer cases and 50% of cancer deaths.
A healthy lifestyle pattern is defined as one free from alcohol drinking, smoking, daily/weekly aerobic activity (exercises), nutritious feeding etc. provide low risk to cancer disease while engaging in unhealthy lifestyle increases cancer risks. The proportion of cancer cases among people exposed to unhealthy lifestyle is greater than those in low-risk groups.
A healthy lifestyle full of exercises and increased aerobic capacity is a significant prevention measure and control of cancer. Even through many will wonder at the applicability of the above topic but it has been identified that healthy living, (eating well, exercises, not smoking, avoid alcohol intake totally or prevent excessive drinking all help to improve body functions and the activities of the immune system which is directly linked to fighting of cancer or lowering its risks.
We should therefore change the way we live and implement effective prevention strategies to prevent the disease (cancer). Cancer has been identified to be highly preventive by healthy consumption of foods rich in antioxidants which helps neutralize free radicals and prevent the development of cancer cells. It is a collective effort that all should contribute their quota to prevent the incidence (occurrence) of cancer by consciously living a healthy lifestyle.
This should particularly be encouraged among the high-risk population (people with its related genetic factor, exposure history, environmental factor etc.); they should be encouraged to follow a healthy life pattern to prevent them coming down (presenting) with the disease. They should be actively monitored to ensure they live well and maintain the healthy pattern of living.
