Numerous recent studies have greatly shown how foods help to improve intelligence. The brain is the organ responsible for cognitive functioning and to improve intelligence, it is important that you focus on feeding the brain. Many people have no idea how they ingest continuously to play a large role in how their brain functions, so they’d rather focus on feeding the stomach, without giving more thoughts on how to feed the brain.
The brain needs food to keep it healthy and running and you have to make the smart choice of food to make this happen. Below are some food ideas, that can help increase your intelligence quotient (IQ).
1. Whole grains
Whole grains are rich in fiber and are an integral part of the Mediterranean diet, which may help to lower the risk of mild cognitive impairment, that can cause neurological deterioration. Whole grains are rich in protein, fiber, B vitamins and trace minerals like iron, zinc, copper and magnesium.
All of these nutrients help to reduce the risk of heart disease, oxidative stress, type 2 diabetes, obesity and some other health defects, which will eventually improve brain function and reduce the risk of any neurological impairment.
2. Eggs
Eggs are a rich source of high quality protein, of which a larger proportion is found in the egg white. The yolk is a good vegetarian source of iron and is also rich in choline which is a vitamin B like nutrient. The brain uses the choline to make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that helps to maintain memory and communication among brain cells. Eggs are also rich in phospholipids and lecithin, which helps to build up membrane of brain cell.
3. Oily fish
Oily fish like wild salmon, fresh tuna, mackerel and sardines are loaded with important nutrients like protein and vitamin D. Fish is also known as one of the best source of omega-3 fatty acids, which is known for its amazing function in the brain and the body.
Over 50% of the brain is made up of lipids, of which a larger part consists of fatty acids that belong to the omega family. These fats help in the effective production and development of brain cells and also maintain the fluidity of the cell membrane. You can eat two portions of oil rich fish a week, and it’ll be best to go for fresh fish, for added benefits.
Your meal choice can make you smarter. Incorporate these meals into your diet to help boost your IQ.
