4 Reasons Why You Should Eat Eggs

Eggs are one of the best foods to eat as they contain a lot of nutrients, enough to make a chick. Here are some detailed reasons why eating eggs is beneficial for your health.

1. Nutritious

Eggs have 9% Vitamin B12, 15% Vitamin B2, 6% Vitamin, 7% Vitamin B5, 22% Selenium and almost every vitamin and mineral needed by the human body. The yolk contains all the minerals, however, the white part contains protein. It also contains 77 calories, 6 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fat and small amounts of carbohydrates.

2. Improve your cholesterol profile

An egg contains 212 mg of cholesterol which is more than many other foods, and is a cause for concern. However, in moderate amounts, this should not be a problem as the liver produces cholesterol every day and will simply cut back its cholesterol production.

Studies have shown that the cholesterol in eggs raises the levels of good cholesterol (HDL) and changes the bad cholesterol (LDL) into a sub-type which has not been linked to any cardiovascular disease. Note though that this doesn’t apply to diabetics because they are on low-carb diets.

3. Good for the brain

Eggs contain a nutrient called choline, which is usually grouped with B complex vitamins. It is required by the body for various processes as it synthesizes the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and is a component of cell membranes. This prevents liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases and neurological disorders.

This nutrient is needed most especially by pregnant women, as low choline intake leads to neural tube defects and decreased cognitive function in fetuses. Note, choline is also found in beef liver, so if you ever get bored of eating eggs, this is a good substitute.

4. Protection of eyesight

Eggs have lutein and zeaxanthin, which are antioxidants that protect the eyes and can be found in the yolk of the egg. They gather up in the retina i.e. the sensory part of your eye and decrease the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts, thus preventing you from developing eye diseases or blindness later in life.

Overall, eggs are important and definitely one of the healthiest foods you should eat, especially in your quest to get fit and healthy.
