4 Yoga Poses for Boosting Fertility

Virtually every woman desires to become a mother, and it is so sad when that dream is truncated by infertility. Unfortunately, some women fall on the wrong side of statistics and are unable to conceive. Before you get depressed, and finally give up on child bearing at all, think of yoga.

Can yoga help you get pregnant? Yes, as studies show that it helps to reduce stress, and this affects fertility. Other studies also show that specific yoga poses can promote baby-making by increasing blood flow to the pelvis, which stimulates hormone-producing glands, and releases muscle tension.

Below are some of these poses.

1. The seated forward bend

This pose helps to stimulate the ovaries and uterus, and also stretches the muscles at the lower back, hips, and hamstrings. It is known to relieve stress and depression, which promotes fertility. To do this, sit on the mat with your legs stretched out and spine upright. Now, press your heels down to the ground while you flex your feet. Inhale, as you extend your arms up overhead and sit tall, balancing on your hip bones and lifting out through the crown of your head.

2. One-legged forward bend

This pose is more effective during pregnancy, as it helps to lower the back muscles, and releases tension. To do this, bring your hands to your hips, and step forward with your right foot about 60 centimeters. Inhale, and keep your spine straight, while you bend forward from the hips. Then, extend your arms out and go as deep as you can. Maintain this pose for 3 to 5 breaths.

3. Child’s pose

The muscles of the hips, thighs, and ankles are stretched and strengthened in this pose. Get on your hands and knees, and spread your knees wide apart, with your big toes touching each other. Now, sit up straight and lengthen your spine up through the crown of your head, then bow forward while exhaling, draping your torso between your thighs.

Then, keep your arms long and extended, with your palms facing down. Maintain this pose for a while. This pose is also known to help in better alignment of the pelvis, which increases circulation, and can improve fertility.

4. Supported head stand pose

This pose helps to trigger the thyroid gland when the sternum presses on the thyroid area, and it requires you balancing your weight on your shoulders. Use a sticky mat to pad your head and forearms, or a folded blanket, whichever suits you. Inhale, as you lift your knees off the floor, and exhale as you lift your feet away from the floor. Now, tense your outer arms inward, and soften the fingers. Stay like this for 10 seconds or more.

Do you have fertility issues? Try one or more of these exercises and be consistent. Eventually, you may notice improvement in fertility.
