      1. No taking essential oils internally, especially in water is NOT the safest way. Oil and water do not mix and essential oils are highly concentrated essences of plant material. Diffusing and topical use are best.

        1. You are wrong- but EOs must be in a glass container or a stainless container; you must either stir or shake before you drink…I have ingested them in water for years! While not all EOs are ingestible, but all these mentioned in this blog for ingesting are safe to put in your water!

          1. Victoria, Registered Aromatherapist

No, Allen is NOT wrong. NO reputable, properly trained Aromatherapist would ever recommend the internal use of essential oils. First, essential oils are highly concentrated and have the capacity to cause severe damage when taken internally. Second, have you actually SEEN how some e/o’s are produced? It isn’t very sanitary. Third, if an e/o is being flogged as “food grade,” then it has, by definition, been adulterated and is not longer a pure essential oil. Diffuse it or dilute it for topical application, but never, ever, put it in your mouth.

        2. Tami lyn Mitchell

Since these oils are great to lose weight. How do you use these oils to lose weigh?. What do ppl do with these oils for them to lose weight?

        3. That’s not true, I always add essential oils to my water and I’ve benefited so much. From depression to weight loss to more energy. Even my doctor is amazed at how far I’ve come since turning to essential oils😀

          1. Hello Shelly, could you HELP me? I am new in the world of essential oils… I urgently need to lose weight because I have diabetes, also I have a lot of cellulite on my thighs.
Please provide me with some blends that will work for me.

            Thanks in advance.

    1. I take mine daily in a capsule with olive oil as a carrier oil. No issues at all. I usually drink glass of water when I take it.

    2. Yes you can put therapeutic grade oils in your body either by water or vegetable capsules if you don’t like the taste. The main thing is not the water or capsule, it’s the grade of the oil you’re using. Some oils are cheap because they have fillers in them. Make sure that you check what grade it is before you put it in your body.

    3. U can put in capsale or in water as long as there therapeutic grade oils. I use doterra there awesome there grown in the country they thrive in and there are a ton of options some places only have a few oils or the plants are produced in a green house somewhere I don’t trust that myself

  1. I do 4 drops of each in 20 ozs of water: lemon, peppermint and grapefruit. I use a glass water bottle and refill it all day.

  2. I wouldn’t want to add it to water as water and oil don’t mix. I would add it to milk or ice cream. If you do drink oils internally make sure you take a break from it as well. Only ingest oils for about 4 weeks at a time, then 4 weeks off before starting up again.

    1. The reason that oil and water don’t mix is because oils are comprised of fats and the fats don’t dissolve in the water. Essential oils aren’t technically oils at all because they aren’t comprised of fats. Therefore, totally okay to mix in water.

      1. The essential oil market is deregulated and also the people who giving advice.
DO NOT ingest essential oil. And YES they are OIL.
Just the fact that someone giving advice to ingest them show me luck of info/education special in EO.
They are so powerful and unique just to defuse them (without water) or to massage them with carrier oil its inough.

        1. I’ve tried ingesting them both ways – in water and in capsule form. I will NEVER do it again. Both times I ended up in the hospital for bleeding intestines. They are extremely powerful and I only did it for three weeks both times. Before anyone inquires if they were “therapeutic grade”, yes they were. Aside from those two times, I have never been treated for that condition.

          1. There is “therapeutic” topical only and “therapeutic” ingesting grades. Two completely separate. Next time try reading more than just the words “therapeutic”. Check with the manufacturer on specific uses.

        2. Most therapeutic grade oils are safe to injest but do check with the distributor before doing so. EO’s are not technically oils. The viscosity of each oil varies depending on the the plant being distilled, but they are the essence of the plant which is a liquid most of the time. There are exceptions as in frankincense and myrrh which are rather “oily”

        3. If you use these oils as weight loss, and not ingest, how do they work topically? I’m new to essential oils.

      2. No,no,no! Do not take internally, no matter which brand you use! You can shake essential oils and water together and let them sit a little bit. They will separate every time, just try it and you will see. Better safe than sorry.

  3. So these 5 oils can be put into a roller ball with fractionated coconut oil orcarrier of choice? where would the be applied
    Thank you

    1. There are many places you can find them. But I would advise you to stay away from ordering cheap ones off the internet, as they usually dilute them down. Personally, I love the Young Living oils. Very pure!

  4. Unless one is under the supervision of a Certified Aromatherapist or Naturopath, please please please do not take essential oils in just a glass of waterproof in a capsule everyday. You can do severe damage to your esophagus, the mucus lining of your throat and even worse damaging your stomach. The oil sits on top of the water and it’s the first thing that goes down the hatch. It doesn’t matter if it’s certified therapeutic grade or not.

  5. What if its hot water? Like the japanese do when they eat. Cause cold water solidifies oils but heat helps dissolve it.

  6. If your oils have Supplement Facts on the bottle, they are safe to take internally. It depends on how you want to do it. You can put it in water, in a veggie cap, or mix it in your food.
From my oils I have, they say 1 drop for 4 oz of liquid. I currently use Doterra, but there are some oils they don’t carry, so I’m looking into Young Living also.

  7. Young living has a whole line of Vitality Oils specifically designed to be ingested. You can add them to water, or any beverage of your choosing, or when cooking. Diffusing oils and using topically with a carrier oil will also help the body to digest them. Many people put these oils in a capsule to take if you dont like the taste in water. If you are using any citrus oils it needs to be in glass because citrus will pull chemicals out of plastic. When cooking use sparingly as these are pure oils from the plants.

  8. I also, would like to know where to apply them and how often to apply. Can the 5 oils mentioned be mixed together and applied? How many drops of each?

    1. Ive been doing dill (curbs sugar cravings) grapefruit, peppermint, and Young Livings Slique essence blend for weight management and in 3 weeks Ive lost 7 lbs. Others have lost more in the group Im in, but I have some hormone issues working against me too, so Im thrilled with the loss.

  9. Essential oils are potent and super concentrated. You should always use a carrier oil with essential oils when using them on your skin, 1) to avoid any sensitivity 2) they are potent and super concentrated! You don’t need to apply them neat (without diluting with a carrier oil). You should avoid contact to the eyes and mucous membranes. That being said, why would you ever want to take a chance of any type of damage, possibly irreversible damage, to your mouth, esophagus, stomach lining, and more, by ingesting them in water or a capsule? There are too many other ways to use EOs besides ingesting. I, for one, would rather be safe, than sorry.

    1. I have been using 1 drop each of lemon, peppermint and grapefruit in a glass of water, it has increased my energy, metabolism and decreased my appetite. I just added the grapefruit a few days ago. Need to add the other 2. I feel better, less bloating. Cannot determine weight-loss yet.

    2. So I used one drop of peppermint in a glass of water and I lost 9 pounds in 2 weeks. The peppermint made me feel full therefore I didnt eat as much. I use Young Living oils, and as with anything, you need to do your research.
      .

  10. I have been doing 5 drops lemon, lime, and grapefruit in my nixjia red supplement shot each morning from young living , and I am seriously never hungry. I have lost 40 pounds in 2 months! I tell everyone about the oils I use. It’s been awesome for me my sister sells youngliving oils and I am hooked now(and broke lol) but it’s so worth it! Take this used to be 300 pound now 260 pounds girl’s word for it!

    1. I talked to our pharmacist before i started Young living, the grapefruit oil will not affect most medication. I was concerned about it reacting with my blood pressure meds. Have not had any problems

  11. Taking grapefruit oil you need too wait 3 hours before, taking the grapefruit. Oils. My Dr. Stated that,,,I’ve been doing lemon with 8ozs water,it takes the craving away,So 8
I’m hoping too lose. 15 pounds,,,,
    s

  12. Do not ingest grapefruit oil if you are on any medications without consulting your dr. As grapefruit does not mix well with some med

      1. That is very true Rosie, especially if you are on a statin drug. Grapefruit in any form has a tendency to potentiate the effects of the statin, potentially causing liver damage.

  13. Hi, there are alot of differance in opinion on here. The best ways to get your oils is through a distributor who knows about oils. Alot of different company say they are the purest oils. Unless it says the suppemental facts on the bottle how to take the oils, do not ingest. There is one company that has that. Do your research to find the right one.
It is a matter of opinion if you can take the oils internal or not. It is all on what region of the world you are hearing the information from. If they are plant base and pure then you should be able to take them internally. But you have to be wise about it. Just start with a couple drops in a capsule with some fractionated coconut oil in a gEl capsule.
I use doTerra essential oils because they’re third-party tested so someone can’t mess with the test results. And they have a supplemental facts on the side. Happy oiling.

  14. I’m wondering if you have to use all of the oils. Some of the medication I take has interactions with grapefruit so I can’t enjoy a nice juicy grapefruit. And I believe the fennel might have some interactions as well. Would it be a waste of time and effort to even try this at all?

  15. Omg so asking a question that has been asked and not answered heaps of times. HAS ANYONE LOST WEIGHT ? Ps injesting is dangerous

    1. Julie < I noticed a couple of people said that they did lose weight with the oils . I have also lost weight using them , I put them in a capsule and drink a full glass of water with it . the grapefruit i use alone in a capsule and take it @ night , Also with a full glass of water. I do not use generic oils only those safe to ingest as stated on the bottle ( YL ) brand..

    2. one woman said she lost 40 lbs. in 2 months.
one said 15 in a month.
another said 10 in a month.
you have to read the comments.

    3. Yes 2 ppl stated they lost weight and you can ingest some eos and only if they are of the highest quality(YL). Not all eo’s of even the highest quality (YL)are safe to ingest do your research.

  16. I put essential oils in my bath water, I rub them into my thyroid for my thyroid Cancer and I am putting essential oil in my mouth all of these are totally find. If they are plant base and pure then you should be able to take them internally. I am seeing great results with each method that I am using. Oh by the way I live in Canada 🙂

  17. I had very been putting Lemon, Grapefruit, and peppermint EOS in my water for 2 months and I’ve lost 16 lb plus my jeans are very loose. I just increased the lemon and grapefruit oils to 3 drops but still o ly have the peppermint at one drop since Peppermint isnt my favorite flavor. I forgot to take measurements. I started to use Young Living Essential Oils so I could get healthy. That includes severe exhaustion from a thyroid condition which makes it even harder to lose weight. There is also a combination of oils, Lemon, Grapefruit, and Cypress, 2 drops each, I believe, mix them with a carrier oil such as coconut oil and rub the mixture on your belly. I was a skeptic as I started using the essential oils. But each one that I have used, for different issues has come through for me again and again. If that isn’t a testimonial, I don’t know what is!

  18. Do your research on the oils. I don’t care what anyone says Doterra and Young Living are not what they seem. I use Rocky Mountain oils. Each bottle has a lot # and you can get a msds sheet for each one. They are all made with plants in their natural habitats. They are also produced without chemicals. Also remember the stronger the smell the weaker the oil. The opposite of what you would think.

    1. The stronger the smell the weaker the oil. Never heard that one. Aromatherapy without aroma. Hmmmmm. I will be looking into the research behind that. I use pure theraputic oils for their aroma.

  19. There are a lot of people who drink certain EO drops in water and capsules. No one ended up in the hospital that I know including myself . You need to make sure the oil is good for internal method. I have been doing this for years. Fennel you should not over do with it. Go to the websites and read the directions for each Oil. Young Living has a Vitality line just for this. I think everyone’s questions and concerns will be answered when you research their Vitality line.

  20. World renound herbalists who are aware of essential oils benefits, proper use, & toxicity levels advise NOT EVER ingesting essential oils. Doing so can severely damage intestinal lumen by chemical burn from EOs. This is a terribly irresponsible thing to publish.

  21. Do not ingest essential oil .
You will lost weight at first but later your stomach get weaker. Your stomach will get very sensitive to hot and spicy food.
Just don’t ingest them through my experience.

  22. Wow, so many “experts”. It seems to me that if there is even a hint of bodily damage from ingesting EOs, I would think you wouldn’t want to do that. Why would you if diffusing works just as well?

It seems to me the weight loss mentioned here is due to eating less and exercising, the old standby.

I’m sure there are some benefits to EOs but there is a lot of hype, too, and marketing by these companies who distribute EOs. It just reminds me of the old Amway days and the get rich quick pyramid schemes30-40 years ago. Be careful of what you put in your mouth!

  23. There is no quick way to lose weight. Cut your carbs, and sweets. Get out of the house with some kind of exercise. The only guaranteed fast way is surgery.

  24. Yes.im totally agree with u sue smith. There is no quick way to lose weight. Actually it has many factors to lose weight. Not only just consume the capsule or what so ever but we need some exercises, take a balance food etc. It just additional supplement only.

  25. I have been ingesting Oils for awhile now. My biggest issue was constipation and bloating. This has made an incredible difference. Funny how the experts on here are so against this idea when I’m guessing most of those same people eat poison from the grocery store, feed their kids that same poison. Also…taking in any RX and vaccine without learning or any of the side affects. 🧐

  26. There is no such recognized designation for “therapeutic grade” essential oils. There is no governing body to test them. Anyone can say their essential oils are therapeutic grade, but it does not mean anything!!!!!

Just be VERY Careful if you are ingesting oils and at least make sure they are organic so you know you are not ingesting pesticides.

    1. And be careful of mlm companies. Their goal is to make a profit. Make sure you search out aromatherapist/herbalists for their opinions.
