6 Foods to Boost Memory

Yep, you really can boost your memory with certain foods. They are not magic pills that will produce results instantly, rather they do so overtime, producing a significant difference. Any food that improves brain function, undoubtedly improves memory as well. Eat these six foods regularly to keep your remembering skills up.

1. Celery

Celery and other foods rich in antioxidants protect the brain from oxidative damage. Cells in the body produce a group of compounds called free radicals from metabolic reactions. These free radicals go all about the body damaging cells and tissues, including in the brain, thereby reducing their function. Antioxidants in these foods combat these free radicals, preventing damage to cells, including to memory cells in the brain, preventing memory loss and increasing the ability to remember.

2. Fish

Fishes are known for their high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, one of the only groups of fats that are actually good for you. These compounds cannot be manufactured by the body, so you have to take in all supplies through your food. These omega 3 fatty acids are vital compounds found abundantly in the brain, crucial for cognitive and memory function.

3. Krill oil

The omega 3 fatty acids found in the brain are also vulnerable to oxidative damage like any other compound, thereby reducing their function. Krill oil contains astaxanthin, a special antioxidant compound that prevents oxidative damage to omega 3s, hence enhancing brain function and memory.

4. Coconut oil

Some degenerative neurological and brain diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, that cause forgetfulness, can be prevented or reduced by a few tablespoons of coconut oil a day. Coconut oil contains medium chain triglycerides, which helps to prevent brain and nerve cells atrophy.

5. Egg yolks

Egg yolks contain a massive amount of choline, a water soluble vitamin vital for brain growth and development in infants and maintenance in adults. Better brain maintenance improves memory in general.

6. Avocados

Avocados contain a vast array of nutrients that are good for the brain. They include the folate and vitamin K, which both prevents blood clots and strokes from happening in the brain. These two compounds also improve  memory.
