Body Detox

Body detox is the process of neutralizing the toxic effect of certain substances in the body. Detoxification is the process of removing the physiological effects of substances such as alcohol, addictive substances, poisoning, toxins or drugs from the body. It is the natural way of getting rid of the negative and poisonous effects of these items from the body.

Usually, it is the function of the liver to detoxify the body. Howbeit, certain substances in the form of food, meditation, diet or exercises could be employed to help hasten this purpose. It is also possible to carry out body detox by simply making certain lifestyle changes that ensures our body is continuously cleared of toxins.

To detoxify the body means to cleanse the body of every harmful substances that might have been ingested. It is therefore very important and necessary to frequently carry out body detoxification process.

1. Importance

It is important to detoxify the body to allow for proper functioning of the body. The presence of toxins in the body interfere with normal body functions and either halt it or slows it down. Detoxifying our body also help in healing and promote human health. Toxins such as pollutants, artificial food ingredients, metals, micro-organisms, chemicals, pesticides, poisons, harmful environmental organisms etc, are capable of harming our body and causing adverse health effects.

There are natural body processes that help cleanse the body. The body has the ability of getting rid of toxins via sweating, urination, defecation, lacrimation (crying or shedding tears). These are all natural ability available for the body to detoxify itself.

2. Role of excretory system

Various body system systems function to remove waste products from the body, the excretory system playing the largest role. They work hand in hand to ensure unwanted metabolic products (e.g. excrete waste, hormones, drugs and other foreign substances) are disposed from the body.

In other to detoxify the body, always consume organic vegetables and fruits. Avoid eating processed foods or fast foods which contain pesticides and might have been treated with chemicals or harmful toxins to preserve them.

3. Exercise and meditation

Exercise and meditation help the body detoxify itself. While exercising or engaging in certain mind work such as meditation, the body sweats which helps to release the toxins and other metabolic waste products from the body through the skin.

Sweating also help to get rid of some metals such as arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead which might have been ingested or possibly contacted from the environment.

4. Diet

Our diet and the food we eat goes a long way to aid detoxification. Foods such as lemon, garlic, broccoli, uncooked fruits, raw vegetables, mung beans etc. All goes a long way in purifying our body. Raw nuts, sprouts and seeds of certain edible plant are also useful for this process. They clean the gastrointestinal tract and optimize liver and kidney functions.

5. Breathing and drinking

Drinking a lot of water and breathing in fresh air are also useful in body detox. Avoid polluted or contaminated air by and ensure you breathe fresh air at all times. Keeping the body properly hydrated also help diuresis (urine secretion) and gut motility by aiding proper food digestion.

Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins and above all practice good hygiene and sanitation at all time.
