Hot chocolate banana-nut oatmeal
This isn’t your regular old oatmeal. It’s more like having an awesome dessert for breakfast. This recipe has fresh bananas, oatmeal, cocoa and just the right amount of chocolate chips which double up as a healthy and delicious breakfast.
Total time to prepare this meal is 30 minutes. It typically serves 4 people.
Ingredients
- 2 cups plain almond milk
- 2 fully ripened bananas- 1 diced and 1 thinly sliced crosswise
- ¼ tablespoon pure extract of almond
- ¼ tablespoon pure almond extract
- ¼ tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- Kosher salt
- 2 cups old fashioned rolled oats
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup toasted and chopped walnuts
- Pinch ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of agave nectar or honey
- 2 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
Take the almond milk, 1 ¾ cups of water, almond and vanilla extracts, diced bananas and a pinch of salt and add all this to a large saucepan to boil over high heat.
Stir the oats, cocoa powder and 1 tablespoon of honey and reduce the heat to medium. While cooking, keep stirring continuously until the oats are fully cooked to your desired texture for 6-7 minutes.
Then transfer the oats into 4 bowls and top it off with the sliced bananas, walnuts, the remaining tablespoon of honey, cinnamon and chocolate chips and serve.
This breakfast will go well with rice milk, soy milk, oat milk or hemp milk.
