How to Prevent Stroke

Stroke refers to a cut or stops in the supply of oxygen to the brain. The cells in the brain need a constant supply of oxygen which is contained in the blood to function. This cut in the supply of oxygen cause death of affected cells, which results in impaired functioning of the affected parts of the brain. The most common effect a stroke has on an individual is paralysis of certain body parts like the arms and legs. It could also cause inability to speak and memory loss.

Stroke could affect anyone at anytime, but there are certain measures that would reduce your chances of suffering a stroke. Here are a few of them.

1. Healthy diet

 

Your diet is one very important aspect of your health. Your diet could either improve your health or deteriorate it. Your chances of suffering a stroke could also be determined your diet. To avoid strike, reduce your intake of foods that contain a lot of fats, theses foods are one of the major causes of high blood pressure and bad cholesterol in the body. Consume foods that are rich in fiber and always include vitamins in your diet. Also avoid foods that contain a lot of salts.

2. Regular exercise

 

Regular exercise helps both in preventing stroke and recovering from strokes. Exercise could help you to reduce the excess amount of substances like, fats that could cause you to suffer high blood pressure, obesity and bad cholesterol. Regular exercise at least 3-4 times in a week is advisable. Exercise also helps you keep fit and lose weight.

3. Quit smoking

Smoking is very bad for your health. Smoking contains substances that when inhaled, reduce the oxygen content of the blood, low oxygen level in the blood for a long time would definitely increase your risk of suffering stroke. Smoking is also responsible for some other diseases like lung cancer and heart related diseases.

4. Taking proper treatment

Most times stroke is caused as a result of existing illness medical conditions like high blood pressure and obesity. Proper treatment of previously existing diseases that, could lead to stroke would definitely reduce your risk of suffering stroke.

No matter what the case might be, prevention is always better and cheaper than cure. So choose to live healthy today and reduce the risk from suffering from diseases like stroke in future. It is also important to note that following these steps mentioned above can also help you reduce the risk of facing other life-threatening diseases in the nearest future.
