Oily skin results from excess sebum production from the sebaceous gland and the accumulation of this excess oil often leads to blackheads, pimples and other skin irritations. Oily skin can be triggered by dietary choices, too much stress, genetics or hormonal changes in your body due to puberty.
Oily skin can be difficult to manage; however, here are some of the home remedies you can use to control oil production and absorb the excess oil from your skin.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is rich in alpha hydroxyl sources which moisturize and tone your skin. The antibacterial properties of ACV can fight t bacteria causing acne.
All you need to do is to dilute 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with 3/4 cup of distilled water, use a cotton ball to apply the solution over your face, leave the application for 5- 10 minutes and then rinse off with cool water. For extra benefits, you can add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar into a glass of water and drink it before going to bed- this will help control excess oil production in your skin.
2. Cucumbers
Cucumbers because of their cooling, soothing and astringent properties, they are very beneficial for your oily skin, they are also high in vitamins and minerals like vitamins A and E, potassium and magnesium.
To get your desired result, cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices and rub them generously on your face, leave it on overnight and rinse with warm water in the morning, do this every night before going to bed.
3. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a great source of citric acid that works like an astringent, it also has antiseptic properties that can lighten every skin discoloration and restore your skin pH balance.
To use this, mix one teaspoon of fresh lemon juice with two teaspoons of distilled water, ply this mixture on your skin using a cotton ball and leave it on for about 10 minutes and then wash your face with warm water. Note that lemon juice can dry out your skin so you can apply some oil-free moisturizer after washing, do this daily.
Alternatively, you can make a face paste by mixing one tablespoon of lemon juice with one tablespoon of honey and one tablespoon of milk, apply this paste generously on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before washing off with cold water , you can do this once daily and get a positive result within a week.
4. Egg whites
Egg whites are high in vitamin A and can effectively dry out your skin blemishes as well as tone and tighten up your skin pores.
To use this remedy, spread one already whipped egg white on your skin, allow it to dry and then wash it off with warm water, do this twice a week.
Alternatively, you can apply a mixture of half lemon juice and egg white on your face, leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse off with warm water- this will tighten your skin and soak up excess oil.
