A lot of times the secrets to living sickness free lives aren’t secrets at all, but just common sense. For example, you should avoid contact with bacteria and viruses at school and work. However, a whole host of other feel good solutions can help you live a healthier like no matter your age.

Here are some secrets that will help you maintain a healthier, illness-free life.

1. Go green

Green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamins that will help you maintain a balanced diet and would support a healthier immune system. According to a study carried out on mice, eating cruciferous vegetables sends chemical signals to the body that boost specific cell-surface proteins that are necessary for efficient immune system function.  The study showed that the healthy mice that were deprived of green vegetables lost 70-80 percent of cell surface proteins.

2. Make sure that you keep moving

You can stay active by following a regular exercise routine such as walking 3 times a week which do more than keep you fit and trim. According to a study published recently, regular exercise can also:

  • Keeps inflammation and chronic disease at bay.
  • Reduces stress and the release of stress-related hormones.
  • Accelerates the body to fight the common cold.

3. Stay in bed

Getting adequate sleep is extremely important especially if you have been exposed to a virus. A study showed that healthy adult participants who slept a minimum of 8 hours each night over a period of two weeks showed greater resistance to the virus that had infested them.  But those who slept seven hours or less each night were about three percent more likely to develop the virus after exposure.

One of the main reason behind this may be that the body releases cytokines during extended periods of sleep. Cytokines are the proteins that help your body to fight infection by regulating the immune system.
