What is cellulite?
It can be defined as the bumpy, uneven appearance of the skin in areas like the buttocks, thighs and belly caused by the fat layer under the skin. This happens more so in women than men and can be a source of anxiety fro a lot of women whose own is classified as severe.
Is it possible to get rid of cellulite?
Not really. Except you are willing to go under the knife but there are so-called “anti-cellulite creams” that claim to reduce the appearance of it.
Do these creams work and why?
The reason why some of these creams work is because they contain the following substances:
-RETINOL: this compouns is a derivative of the A-vitamin that may improve blood flow thereby improving skin thickness and elasticity.
-METHYLXANTHINES: these are the most common found in these creams. Namely; caffeine, theophylline and aminophylline. There is a belief that caffeine increases the rate at which fat is metabolized; aminophylline and theophylline promote smoothness of the skin since they are both muscle relaxants.
–Botanical derivatives: horse chestnut, Centella asiatica and Gingko biloba are all natural that improve skin thickness and strength; break down fat; and reduce inflammation.
Yoga and pilates have been known to reduce the appearance of cellulite but at the end of the day, there is no gettind rid of it.
