Statistics show that there is a significantly high mortality rate during winter periods. The winter season is known to be accompanied with respiratory diseases, reports have even pointed that more than a third of the deaths in the winter period of 2014/2015 were largely due to respiratory diseases. So what this article will do is to show you some of the most practical ways through which you can get through any winter season with a clean bill of health.
1. Keep your hands clean
Maintaining a strong immune system should be your utmost priority during every winter season. This is because the winter period is generally classified with closed doors and windows and this type of a setting creates a very conducive atmosphere for germs and viruses to thrive. This setting creates the transfer of contagious diseases and flus very easy, so be sure to constantly wash your hands or frequently use hand sanitizers to prevent being infected with winter germs
2. Multivitamins
It has also been recommended to take some multivitamins during the winter period so as to efficiently compensate your body for some of the nutrients you may have missed out on during the cold period. Some of the most recommended vitamins during this period are; B6, B12, C, D and other minerals like chromium, copper, folic acid, selenium, zinc and calcium.
3. Don’t be sedentary
The winter is a time when most people become inactive and eventually become prone to developing some health complications. A research at the University of South Caroline unveiled that walking for about 3 hours every day reduces your risk of catching a cold by 35%. The study also revealed that even slow movements enhance your immune cell functions. Apart from this, there are certain lightweight exercises that you can engage in to stay physically active.
4. Reduce your sugar consumption
Whatever the situation, consuming excessive sugar is very bad for your health. Processed varieties of sugar have been noted for no benefits to your body. Processed sugar, which is converted to fructose, damages your liver.
5. Keep your feet healthy
During the winter, it is advised to moisturize your feet as often as you can so as to present fungi infections, which will eventually result in cracked or broken skin. This has also been confirmed by Dr. Robert klein M,D (Texarkana, Texas). He further suggested that you “wear socks with synthetic fibers to wick away moisture faster.”
