It can get very annoying and frustrating dealing with acne. As you have probably found out by now, defeating the breakouts isn’t as simple as just applying some lotion. Acne can be hard to treat. However, it might surprise you to know that you can see your acne situation improve if you just make some simple changes to your daily routine. Here are a few tips to tackle your acne problem:
1. Get more sleep
Studies have shown that the risk of psychological stress increases by 14% for every hour of sleep you lose in a night. And this makes acne conditions worse. Stress increases glucocorticoid production, which can lead to abnormalities in skin structure and function. You sleep better when the temperature is lower, so to get better sleep crank down your room temperature to between 65 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Sip water
Increasing the amount of water you drink is a great way to flush out internal toxins and hydrate your skin from inside out.
3. Eat more Omega 3 Fatty acids
Omega 3s can be found in supplements or in foods like walnuts, avocados, flaxseed oil, and salmon. These nutrients have been shown to control the production of leukotriene B4, a molecule that can increase sebum and cause inflammatory acne.
4. Cleanse twice a day
The face has more oil-producing glands than any other part of the body, as it gets to pick up a lot of contaminants like make-up, smog, dust and sweat which clog the pores which result in blackheads and pimples.
Even if you don’t take a shower twice a day, it is very important for you to wash your face thoroughly and gently twice in the morning and night. You could also look for cleansers that say “noncomedogenic” on the bottle.
