Osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear arthritis. It is a condition in which the natural cushioning between joints, cartilage, wears away. When this happens, the bones of the joints rub more closely against one another with less of the shock-absorbing benefits of cartilage. As a result, people suffering from this feel pains in their knees and so cannot exercise.
Everybody should exercise because of how immensely beneficial it is for you. Exercising helps prolong your life by keeping you healthy and fit. People who have knee issues because of osteoarthritis cannot exercise because it becomes too painful to workout.
Some of foods can also help you to combat these pains and allow you to exercise.
Here are some foods that will help you to combat your knee issues so that you get to exercise.
1. Almonds
Almonds are rich in Vitamin E which has strong antioxidant qualities, hence, it is a great choice for combating osteoarthritis. Research on people with knee osteoarthritis has shown that compared to normal healthy people, they have little amounts of Vitamin E in their system. Thus, they have less in comparison to others’ benefits from Vitamin E. There are other foods that contain Vitamin E like sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, peanuts and others.
2. Salmon
Salmon is very rich in Vitamin D as it boosts and greatly aids in preventing and keeping knee osteoarthritis from worsening. In fact research further proves this assumption that lack of Vitamin D increases the risk of worsening knee osteoarthritis. Of course, there are other foods that you can also take such as tuna, mackerel etc.
3. Oranges
Orange is a nutritious fruit containing many minerals, especially Vitamin C. Having only a little Vitamin C causes leg-bone changes which is said to be a pre-symptom of the cartilage loss that marks knee osteoarthritis. Bell peppers, grapefruit and strawberries also contain Vitamin C.
4. Spinach
Spinach is a dark leafy green which contains Vitamin K, which also has been said to be not sufficient in people suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee. The ‘Journal of Orthopedic Science” in 2009 made a study and revealed that a little than the usual amount can cause greater risk of knee osteoarthritis. Other foods that have Vitamin K are broccoli, kale, turnip and others.
